What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL?
It is very important to know the difference between the two. Both are not the same. IELTS is a different thing and TOEFL is different. IELTS – the full form of which is International English Language Testing System is a test conducted by the IDP and British Council. The ETS conducts the TOEFL which has a completely different format than the previous one, but both of them are tests of English language without doubt.
There are four modules in both the IELTS and TOEFL. Both of them have listening, reading, writing and speaking. But the way the four modules are done is not the same.
But the listening, reading, writing and speaking of the TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language and the IELTS are not the same. (more of that later)
The IELTS is a written or paper based test but the TOEFL is mostly a computer based test.
Important Advice by Gill Sir: A student should not assume that if he/she prepares for IELTS, he/she will be preparing by default for TOEFL or vice versa.
The IELTS requires to achieve at least 6.5 bands minimum or it depends on your requirement. For TOEFL mostly you require more than 85 of score to do your applications.
